How a Bra Should Fit

Finding the perfect bra requires effort and a bit of trial and error. Finding your right size is just one step in your quest to find the perfect bra fit. But all effort is worth it since getting the correct bra fit will:

  • Enhance your shape. A correct-fitting bra will lift and support your breasts for a more womanly and curvy figure. It will also make clothes fit better and your silhouette look smoother.
  • Strengthen your posture. A good and well-fitting bra will take the pressure off your shoulders, allowing you to pull them back and stand straight.
  • Shape your figure. A bra that fits perfectly will prevent any bulges along your back and sides. It will also provide better breast definition to prevent a "four-boob" or "uni-boob" look.

If you are unsure about how should a bra fit, here are several guidelines to help you check your garments for the perfect fit:

  • Bra straps stay in placeStraps stay in place without slipping and with minimal adjustment.
Bra straps should stay in place with minimal adjustment. They should not dig into your shoulders but lie flat. Elastic straps should also stretch and spring back into shape without wrinkled elastics.
  • Breasts fit comfortably and snugly inside the cups.Breasts fit comfortably and snugly inside the cups.
There should be no bulges or overspill. The cups should not dig into breast tissue nor should any underwire rest on it. Gather breast tissue from the sides and direct them into the front of the cups for a better fit. There shouldn’t be any wrinkle, extra fabric, or bagginess in the cups.
  • The underwires lie flat against your ribcage. The underwires and center gore lie flat against your ribcage.
A gap means that you are wearing a smaller cup size. Observe your bra; there shouldn’t be any gap whether you are still or moving.
  • There’s no pain or discomfort from the bra. There’s no pain or discomfort from underwires or any part of the bra.
If your bra fits right, there should be no pinching from the underwire, digging from the straps, or pain from the band. Your breasts should feel supported and look lifted. The underwire should lie at the front against your ribcage without digging into any breast tissue.
  • The side and back wings lie flat and do not dig into your figure. The side and back wings lie flat and do not cut into your figure.
The side and back wings should hug your figure but not dig in. Any dig in will cause bulges along your back and sides. The fit should by comfortable and snug, not tight.
  • The bra fits properly on the first hook columnThe bra should fit right on the first hook column.
It should fit properly on the loosest hook so you can tighten it in the future. You should be able to slip two fingers beneath the band in back, and one in the front center. The fit should be firm and secure.
  • The band stays in place even when you’re movingThe band - and the bra - stays in place even when you’re moving.
Move around, lift your arms and do the twist. Your bra shouldn’t budge but stay in place. There shouldn’t be any discomfort or chafing.
